This Lunar New Year proved to be a very special one for me. It was a first celebrating it as a married couple (which meant being generous and starting the ang pow giveaway tradition instead of shunning from it), first having to make two trips to 2 places for the reunion dinner (because both families were equally important to us), first time having to spend the 1st day of CNY visiting 5 – 6 homes and paying respects to Luke’s immediate & extended family (instead of staying home like before where everyone comes over and visits my grandma), first year being hinted by the elderly to bring along a baby (God Willing) next CNY, and first time having to make a trip back home to ‘bai nian’ to my mom & grandma (which felt a little weird).
The moving around was undoubtly exhausting, but very fulfilling as I got to meet more people & know them better. There was also a lot of eating, drinking and snacking involved (which has landed me a kilo or 2 – sigh) together with laughter, joy as we celebrated.
This CNY was also an ox-picious one to celebrate since there were 5 members of the family that belonged to the year of the Ox: Mum, Mum-in-law, Luke, Grandma & Cousin Charmaine! 🙂
p/s: I understand that the Ox gets along best with the Rat (yours truly!)
The peak of CNY may have just been 2 days (as most of us had to return back to work on the 3rd day, damn!), but it sure doesn’t stop our celebratory activities with friends as we continue our visiting and yu-sheng tossing in the next two coming weekends.
Gong xi fa cai everyone, wishing you great health, prosperity and abundance in love, patience & laughter!
