Within the span of 6 months this year, I’ve been to Bangkok twice – the 1st trip in my entire life was in April with the cousin to celebrate her birthday – and the 2nd being just 2 weeks ago with my bunch of girlfriends to celebrate Fiona’s birthday.
An amazing achievement, considering that both trips took place while I was on married status… which got me and the others wondering how ‘flexible’ I’ve suddenly become with my schedules now that I was married… versus the days of being single (no idea what I was up to and why I didn’t have any time in the world to go on any bonding girl trips!)
The trip was indeed timely and very much needed. The husband & I were facing some challenges of our own and time away for ourselves served some good. For him it was catching up with his best friend over insane long sessions of computer gaming (something he’s deprived himself of since we started dating) and me, it was occupying my mind with incredible bargains and bags of beautiful clothes till me and another girlfriend gave up when our feet could no longer lift. We ended up dragging our tired selves back to the hotel and hitting the sheets as soon I could. I was zapped of energy even to go out for dinner on some night, much less try out all our new purchases for the day!
Bangkok was good! Minus the horrible traffic and pollution. Us girls managed to land something for ourselves and the only regret is that we didn’t buy more!!! At one stage I was so tired bargaining 45 minutes over 2 handbags that I told the guy to give in to me so we both could part ways happily! He eventually did, and I landed myself and a colleague new handbags for less than $25 in total. 🙂 SomBoon seafood was also absolutely delicious. I wasn’t that impressed with the signature fried curry crab, but rather the grilled garlic prawns, steam fish with loads of lime and chilli and the morning glory just kept making me go back for MORE MORE MORE.
I wished I had more sessions of foot and body massages though, but with 2 first timers (to BKK) in tow, it was tough since shopping was always top of mind. Apart from all the fun outdoors, we also had a session of drinks which led to many secrets being revealed!!!
It was also on this trip that all of us cherished this beautiful circle of friendship even more than before.
Next up: a short trip for me and the bobo to refresh our souls!
