{Cobination of Chinese roast meats – a fave dish of the Bo’s from Hong Kong Jin Tian @ 58 Seng Poh Road #01-15 S160058
It’s a standalone coffeeshop and while we still prefer our roast pork at our usual Serangoon place, the duck & char siew here is really good.
Get directions and operating hours here.}
{crispy prata at R.K Eating House, 1 Kensington Park Road Serangoon Garden Estate.
It’s located directly opposite Chomp Chomp and the Bo & I usually get our maggi/beehoon goreng fix – remember to ask for THAI style – here.
Love their crispy and fragrant pratas too (I usually opt for plain) but reckon it’s best to consume it there while it’s still pipping hot and wash it down with some teh tarik}
{favorite tau sar piah from 603 Tau Sar Piah @ 603 Balestier Road.
It’s located among the row of tau sar piah shops near the junction of the Balestier/Thomson road but situated on the most left, also nearest to the carpark.
By far the Bo’s & my faourite due to its fragrance & tastiness. }
Is that the red bean or green bean pastry from Balestier? It looks pretty good. Lately I’ve thinking about the YuanYang bun from D’Bun at Joo Chiat. This has a mixture of red bean paste and lotus paste with a little salted egg in it. I can’t find it anywhere else. Unfortunately it’s also very popular, and for the longest time I’m not able to get it.
Hello!
It’s the green bean pastry and is really good. Absolutely fragrant and best recommended to consume it shortly after purchase as it’s still warm 🙂
Wow, this YuanYang bun from D’Bun does sound delicious – have not come across anything like it before although I did try this “sweet custard buns” from imperial treasure @ paragon yesterday (which was part of the dim sum menu) which was not too bad. It had lotus paste mixed with a little salted egg in the fluffy white bun. Maybe you can try asking D’Bun when they can get it in and tell them how you’re craving for it during pregnancy :p
D’Bun told me to call up to reserve the Yuan Yang bun, which I’ll do. By the way, I suppose the custard bun from Imperial Treasure is known as ‘Lau Sa Bao’ in Cantonese? I find that it’s alright, not fantastic. I’ve had much better ones at Mouth Restaurant at China Square. The bun is toasty on the outside and fluffy inside. It’s also double the size of the usual bun, and when you bite into it, the custard mixed with melted salted egg yolk flows out. It’s heavenly and sinful at the same time. The best custard egg yolk bun I’ve ever tried. I’ve a friend who’s also crazy over it like me. One time, she went HK and binged on it. She had a bad dream after that of her drowning in custard paste.
Hmm not sure what it was called but I’m a fan of all buns fluffy. Maybe not too much of salted egg though, which explains why I love deep fried man tou. Will need to check out Mouth Restaurant @ China Square some day. And what a hilarious dream about your friend. OD-ed big time!
I like salted egg york, only the yolk not the white. My friend is like a kid, even though she’s my age but she’s actually a kid trapped inside an adult’s body. So she tends behaves in extreme manner. Like when she likes some food, she’ll binge on it until she feels sick like to the point of puking. She has little self control like an adult.
Your friend sounds hilarious and an extreme foodie at the same time.
Oh yeah, she can be hilarious at one time and exasperating at another. One hilarious episode was when she got drunk. She went drinking with friends and her sis at Boat Quay. When they went into a side alley to get their cars, she saw a cockroach on the road. If she wasn’t drunk, she would have screamed like a banshee. But becuz she was, she literally stood there and quarreled with the cockroach for blocking her path, while her sis tried to drag her away.
Hahahahahahha quarreling with the roach. Goodness, she must have been really drunk. She sounds like quite a character and I’m sure a lovely addition to the group.
By the way, can you provide address or direction to the above eateries? Thanks!
Sure I will. Will edit the post and have the addresses/directions up 🙂 Let me know your feedback on the tau sar piah too.
Thanks for the addresses and direction. I’ll go get the Tau Sar piah when I’m at TMC (next week). Anyway after seeing the picture, I had been thinking about it, and couldn’t find any in the Raffles place vicinity. But I know of a shop selling it at Far East Square. So yesterday I went over there to get both the sweet and saltish pastries for myself and the office. Also took the chance to go to Mouth restaurant at China Square for the baked custard buns. The Tau Sar Piah was a hit in my office, though I thought the saltish one is a little dry . But let me compare with the one you recommended.
My pleasure! Wow, where did you get the Tau Sar Piah from? Will have to try the one from Far East Sq since it was a hit. To be honest, I don’t have much tasting experience in this area but I really enjoyed the Balestier one when I first tasted it. 🙂
how are you how are you how are you???
Jy!
