I used to be the beauty/makeup junkie of most of my social groups.
That was before the baby…AND the pregnancy.
Friends would usually text or call me whenever they were at the beauty kingdoms (Sephora) or counters of departmental stores to ask what was the latest and greatest product that I was using and if it was worth the dough. I guess this was because of my curiousity (it all started in the training centre of SIA when I was introduced to personal grooming…) to constantly try out the newfangled beauty products plus my access to all sorts of women magazines during my media career (which meant I was exposed to pages and pages of beauty goodness, samples and award-winning lists).
There were some oldies that were goodies which I stuck to. And others, whose claims did not work on me like a charm as stated in ’em advertorials – I would just ditch them after the last drop and try out something new. I had mishaps (read: tiny bumps) with some – they went on my personal blacklist of products to avoid for good. But most of the times, I had new found love for products until a better, improved version came along.
The first beauty advice I was ever given when I was 17 was that if I started taking care of my skin properly and regularly (it didn’t mean needing to use expensive products) – daily cleansing, moisturizing, sunblock – just a little makeup would go a long long way. I couldn’t agree more. For a long while, my makeup routine consist of a great base/sunscreen + concealer + mascara + blush although these days I try to remind myself to dab on some lip gloss to conceal those dehydrated looking lips and thanks to some lipstick/gloss junkie friends who often remind me that my lips are …erm, ‘bare’. :\
So today for my Friday Five linky with Jus, I would like to share my 5 beauty favourites which makes me feel good on most days.
The saviour of all my dark eye circles and eye bags. It was only recently that I learnt the benefits of using a colour corrector prior to slapping on concealer.
2) Tinted Moisturizer
Most “beauty purists” that I know won’t approve of my 2-in-1 solution but this tinted moisturizer-cum-sunscreen is such a time saver! It goes on so smoothly, my skin is kept hydrated, I’m covered with SPF at the same time and it evens out whatever specks of blemishes. Whee! Just a little is needed each time, this tube has lasted me 4 months and counting.
This product is advertised as a radiant glow face powder. But I use it like as a blush only because I like how it exudes a tinge of rosy without being overly OTT with apple-red cheeks.
4) Eye Palette
It was only recently that I started acquiring the confidence to start using a few colours on the eye palette. My first being a ‘NAKED’ palette from Urban Decay which was highly raved about in the beauty scene and my most recent being an Alber Elbaz x Lancome only because I’m such a sucker for collaborations and all things whimsical looking. Helps that the palette comes with simple, easy to use shades too! And for me, an eye palette is always useful when the occassion calls for some dressing up (even if all you have on is a simple LBD).
A great eye opening tool (pun unintended) without needing the help of an eye curler, I love how this particular Alber Elbaz x Lancome version exudes a tinge of his whimsical, quirky vibes with some drama. I usually use a Bobbi Brown non-smudge on most days and reserve this particular doll (pun intended) for special outings.
Have a great weekend!
