If there’s one thing I absolutely appreciate being a mum in Singapore these days (apart from being accessible to conveniently-located diaper changing areas the moment we step out of the house) is that independent coffee shops are sprouting as fast as my friends announcing their 2nd pregnancies. Which also means when it comes to wanting a cuppa joe and a plate of calories-worth-regretting especially on days when parenting becomes a tad bit challenging & exhausting; I’m spoilt for choice.
I’m obviously a sucker for the cozy cafe culture that’s been quickly and surely making its presence felt in Singapore and its social media scene (I’m sure you’ve came across this recently on your social radar) and the best things about these hidden gems tucked away from the concrete, crowded, overrated coffee giants is that the little one who tags along for these caffeine & sweets trips has fun too because most of the time, we get to sight gorgeous fur animals out for walks (and play with them sometimes), explore in the quaint little park located within the neighbourhood, get our curiosity aroused for new adventures in places we’ve never set foot in before and the little man gets to meet and befriend little boys & girls from the area too.
It feels like a modernized kampong community where everyone is usually offering to share their table/chairs with you than trying to sneakingly take one from you. The owners treat you like a friendly neighbour than a mere paying customer, and there’s always something new to try with the different offering of baked goods (hullo tangy lemon tarts!).
I only wish that I don’t always have to get into a frustrated conversation with taxi uncle on how I’m just as unsure as he is on which corner we should be turning into.
