My son ‘graduated’ from playnest today. <cues emo music>
What started as a trial class and an attempt to introduce consistency to the little man because bored-at-home-mama-has-no-clue-where-to-start turned into an unexpected 3 terms of creative learning & playing for both the bub and myself.
By God’s grace I met a class of lovely people (and a few from the other class too, which was really nice), had some of the most passionate, energetic, dedicated teachers ever met… that taught and sang from their hearts, had crazy fun with my son splashing paint/goob/sand/water/singing songs out loud with exaggerated gestures and forged friendships beyond the classroom (playdates, gym, high teas, dinners, and confinement tea party for a new addition being our most recent activity).
The last 31+1 weeks have been overwhelming with wonderful experiences to say the least, and it has been endearing watching my son grow from a clueless infant to an adorably outspoken toddler (so the teacher observes and says :p).
His love with all forms of messy art and his learning curve in showing little gestures of independence never fail to put a smile on my face during every class with him.
There were definitely tiring days when all I wanted to do was catch up on sleep after a morning of work, but seeing his face light up, running into the embrace of his teachers, clapping in unison with the jingles and songs, eager to participate in the various activities during class made it all worthwhile. Screw exhaustion!
Having the same classmates and mummy mates term after term definitely made it a lot more enjoyable too, often catching up during break and playground time to our guilt of sometimes not knowing which part of the playground our kid’s playing at (oops) and helping each other look out for our kids when nature calls…
I’m going to miss the company of fun teachers and classmates as Liam advances to a new stage of his life with some friends (thankfully) and make new ones (yay).
To new adventures…may I have the energy, enthusiasm and heart to embrace the changes ahead :p
