My little chungkin has been such a champ at school – barely any tears during drop-offs in the last week and lots of giggles & smiles during pickup, that it is hitting me in a bittersweet way. He’s adapting way better and earlier than I anticipated, yet at the same time watching him become more independent day after day makes me reminisce all those “once upon a times” even more.
I’ve been doing lots of pseudo-solo parenting of late because the Bo has been hit with a really bad back injury that doesn’t allow him to sit or stand properly. It’s been exhausting, handling an almost-two year old who wants his way most of the times when we’re out and about, but to be able to spend a few more mother-son moments together…absolutely rewarding. The bub is also at this stage where he has an opinion on almost everything and it’s hilarious to hear him just go on and on even if I can only understand 2 or 3 words out of the entire phrase that he keeps repeating, until it starts annoying someone else near us and out of courtesy I have to stop him.
Work has been great, although getting up for it is something I’m still not used to along with the gripe of squishing my face against the train door or someone’s newspaper in a sardine-packed cabin on days the Bo has work meetings that start even earlier than my official work hours. Thank goodness for the Downtown Line though – it has shaved 20 minutes off my commute during the rare days the train decides not to delay. And sadly the only thing that has been expanding since work started is my waist, thanks to being located in the heart of the latest and greatest dining cluster in town. I would take the Bo to any of these restaurants (sardines, club street social, market grill, teppei, moose head, dean & deluca etc.) for a date night in a beat, except that I’m in the vincinity 5 days a week …. hmm
Catching up with friends was something that I put amongst the top of my list for 2014 and I’m glad that it has been working out great so far. I hope it continues! Even bump into a work associate I used to work and hang out with at the boy’s school this morning. Her #2 is going to be his classmate, which means I’d probably see more of her around too 😀
Meanwhile, so glad the weekend’s here and we can take a respite from the busy week and have some quality family time together. Have a lovely one! xo
