Our family of 4 spent the first day of 2015 sleeping in till about 1030am before I heard Liam going “Happy New Year didi Oliver” while tickling his feet gently … followed by Ollie’s chuckles. It made my morning as I spent the next few moments basking in the boys’ boisterous laughter.
Unlike years past, I didn’t have concrete plans on how we were going to spend New Year’s Day. I used to host brunches every year between the 2 families but with mum away on a holiday and after all that’s happened, the Bo & I could do with just spending time alone with our boys.
While having lunch at home, Liam went “let’s go sentosa mummy! Liam want to go beach”. We acceded to our boy’s request of course. It started to drizzle when we arrived at the beach but we refused to let it dampen our enthusiasm. And so I asked Liam if he wanted to sit on the Sentosa Express (to which he yelled a resounding “YES MUMMY!”) instead while we waited for the weather to clear. 2 stops later, we were at the entrance of Universal Studios – our 4th time there in 2 weeks if you must know and were pleasantly surprised to see how uncrowded the place was and queues for rides ranging from 5-15minutes wait time. SCORE!
The older boys sat on the various roller coasters to their hearts’ content while I hung out with our 3-month old by the carousel as he excitedly took in sights and sounds. We ended the evening with a stroll on the beach and hearing Liam tell us “I had a happy day” validated our decision to go with the flow today.
Just moments after ushering in 2015, I wasn’t sure when my new declaration and tone for the year was going to start. But today, my little man showed me that if I trust in myself and let my actions be louder than our words, it can happen right now.
From our family to yours, Happy New Year!
