How did your first weekend of 2016 go? Our was filled with the way I wanted to start off the year – spending time with our loved ones. We spent New Year’s Day with mom, catching over dim sum and shopping for Chinese New Year’16 stuff in Chinatown before taking the boys to the park for a run. It was Ollie’s first park adventure ever since he started walking 2 months ago, and he was practically chuckling with joy in every step.
On Saturday, we decided to take the boys to the beach after a family gathering of the Hainan clan around the area. It was so nice to meet & catch up with some of the relatives that we usually see only during the Lunar New Year celebrations, have the kiddo-cousins play well together, and feast on yummy home-cooked food (didn’t realise how well this side of the family cooks!).
Ollie absolutely loved his first beach experience and was squealing away in excitement whenever his little feet touch the sand. He would also try running towards the sea whenever he got the chance to. It was heartwarming to see the siblings enjoying each other’s company and definitely served as a reminder to continue taking them out for more outdoor fun this year whenever weather and time permits.
On the personal front, I’ve been doing my best to eat as healthily as I can, be more organised and learn to be in the moment more. I’ve improved slightly in going offline (from chat groups and social media) for longer this weekend compared to the last 2 months and hope to continue limiting my “screen time” in 2016, so that I can focus on giving more attention to the family.
I also hope to document more on the boys’ growing up, which I did little of in 2015 because I wasn’t sure how much details I wanted to share of the family. This year, I hope to document more about them – be it in the public or private space – because these will be few of the things that I’ll be able to hold on too when I’m old and grey, for when my DILs and grand kids start asking me for stories about their daddies.
Here’s to a good start on the first working week of 2016! Make it count, make it awesome, and trust the magic of new beginnings. xo
